Today with this post we are proud to announce a new section of our blog dedicated to tutorials. Often we are asked if it’s hard to assemble our products, or if it’s necessary to call an electrician. These tutorials aim to answer questions like these, and help with anything regarding our products, without the need to be an expert electrician! Through our photo guides and tutorials, all of you will learn the basic steps to assembling Creative-Cables’ products, so as to let you make the lamp of your dreams, from lamp to pendant!
Ready to begin? Good, let’s start a seemingly easy task that is absolutely necessary: “peeling” your fabric covered electric cables, in other words exposing the copper wires within the insulation so as to connect them to the lamp of your choice. To do so, you will only need a roll of scotch tape and a pair of scissors, two items that are probably already lying around somewhere in your home. In this we will be taking into consideration our round section cables. First, wrap a layer of tape around the cable, about two from the end that you’re about to “peel.” This prevents the fabric from fraying as you cut into it, guaranteeing a clean cut final result.
Proceed by cutting the cable right above the scotch tape with your scissors, making sure to cut only the fabric outer and not the electric cables within. Use your fingers to widen the opening enough to separate the two segments of fabric and pull out the wires inside.
Once the inside is exposed you will have to remove the insulation around the electric wires. If you have a pair of stripping pliers (which can be easily purchased any hardware store), all you have to do is use it on the insulation. If you don’t, no problem! Just apply a small amount of pressure on the insulation with your scissors to expose the metal filament inside. Then, delicately peel back the rubber insulation until the wires are free, and connect them!
